Bangkok Airport
- October 14, 2006
In early October 2006 (a week after the
opening), I had a chance to arrive at the new Bangkok airport. My
visual impression of the airport after touchdown in the airplane where just
so-so. The airport looked like just another structure of steel, glass
and concrete -- but I was wrong. The airport has lots of colorful
artwork and statues, that makes this airport really special and unique.I would say Bangkok’s new
Suvarnabhumi International
Airport is one of the best in the world.
I have traveled quite a bit around the
world, and I have never been through passport control so fast as in this
new Bangkok airport. There were only one or two people in front of me in the
immigration (passport) desk, and it took me less than one minute! (See
pictures below.)
The luggage handling was smooth, and I
picked up my luggage within minutes, as well.
The usual taxi sales-men were pushing me to
take their higher than normal priced taxi offers in the arrival hall, but I
simple went downstairs to the metered taxi stand and got a ride to downtown
Bangkok for about 200 baht (about US$ 5.00).
I would give the airport an A+ rating,
despite some of the negative reports in the newspapers. But so what?
The newspapers only seems to thrive on negative news. (smile)
Fly to Bangkok and try the new airport. You will love it.
